SST opens SIWES I for the 2024/2025 Session

SST officially opened the Students Industrial Work Experience Scheme I (SIWES I) for our engineering students. It was an inspiring start as Dr. Darlington Agholor, Dean of SST, gave a warm welcome address to all participants.

SIWES I (GET 299) is a cornerstone program designed to bridge the gap between academic theory and practical engineering experience. This 9-week intensive, on-campus program, with strong industry influence, will expose our 200-level students to real-life work environments and industry-based practices right here at the university.

Through workshops, lectures, and hands-on design and fabrication sessions, students will gain firsthand knowledge, develop essential engineering and soft skills, and begin building a portfolio of meaningful experiences. By the end of SIWES I, our students are expected to demonstrate strong technical and problem-solving abilities, teamwork and communication skills, and familiarity with real engineering tools and challenges. They will also be working on exciting projects, including designing aerial delivery robots, smart campus energy monitoring systems, and self-driving cars for educational purposes!

This program is a vital component of our engineering curriculum, regulated by the National Universities Commission (NUC), Council for the Regulation of Engineering in Nigeria (COREN), and the Industrial Training Fund (ITF), ensuring our graduates are technically competent, ethically grounded, innovative, and socially responsible.

We’re incredibly proud to see our students embark on this crucial phase of their professional development. Stay tuned for updates on their innovative projects and progress!
